Well-cooled for hot motorcycle races – Marcel Schrötter relies on air conditioning from Webasto
On the racetrack, Marcel proudly presents his MV Agusta F3 800 RR, an impressive machine from the Italian brand. But off the track, it’s his campervan that provides comfort and flexibility. “With my campervan, everything is easier, I can decide when to drive to the races,” he explains.
Challenges in the campervan: Searching for the perfect cooling system
However, life on the road and in the parking lot is not always comfortable, especially when temperatures rise. His motorhome already had a cooling system installed that still cools reasonably well at 40 degrees. But it was so loud that it reached its technical limits. “The bed is right under the roof, underneath I have a kind of garage for my bikes. The old cooling system was not only as loud as a tractor, but it also gets extremely hot up there in the summer, with hardly any air circulation. That’s when I realized I needed a proper cooling system to get a good night’s sleep before the races,” he explains.
Unlike in Moto2GP, Marcel was allowed to arrive at the World Superbike Series with his own motorhome. In his search for a new cooling system, he did some research and ultimately chose Webasto.
The cool solution for campervans and motorvans: Cool Top Trail 28V from Webasto
When choosing, it was important to Marcel that he definitely wanted an air conditioning system that was not too conspicuous, so “no big white box”. It had to be flat, slim, ultra-silent and powerful. Ultimately, our RV-cooling experts recommended the new “Cool Top Trail 28V” model.
Since early June, Marcel is now the proud owner of a Cool Top Trail 28V, an exclusive pre-series model that will be officially introduced at the Caravan Salon 2023. The air conditioning system is equipped with a new technology, a variable speed compressor. Jörg Faltin, Head of Product Management for RV and Marine Cooling Products at Webasto, explains the benefits: “With inverter compressor technology, the unit starts with full cooling or heating power to quickly cool or heat the vehicle. Once the desired temperature is reached, the devices automatically adjust the compressor speed to precisely maintain the comfort temperature. Additionally, with the ECO function, you can also adjust the compressor speed limits manually to bring down amperage consumption or noise level to desired target levels.”
The first deployments of the new air conditioner at races in Imola, Italy, and Most, Czech Republic, were successful. “Especially in Imola, it was very hot during the day, but we were able to sleep very well in a wonderfully cooled motorhome, and we weren’t chased away from the site because the system was too loud,” Marcel is pleased.
Marcel has found a new challenge in the World Superbike Series and thanks to the air conditioning system from Webasto, he is well-equipped to keep a cool head even in hot temperatures. We wish him every success for the rest of the season.
We accompanied Marcel during the installation of the Cool Top Trail 28V in Munich and asked him about his impressions.
